For a few days we feasted. Now we see there is still festering.
One the Eve of Christmas we lit candles. Now we face the dark night of the year.
For one day we celebrated God becoming man. Now we see men still trying to become God.
For a short season, we sung the Joy to the World. Now we see our world unwilling to sing at all.
For a short season we were told to buy up goods to ready ourselves for Christmas Day. Now we are told it is all over and we had better start buying for something newer.
For a moment on Christmas, we saw heaven come to earth. Now, we are afraid some sort of hell might be next.
For a moment we thought the enchantment of Christmas might be real. But then we were told by the experts and elites to be more realistic and practical.
But what the elites forget is that Christmas is for the common man. At Christmas God was born to a peasant woman.
The celebrations may be mostly over. But now comes the ordinary living.
That the Word became flesh is an almost unbelievable proposition that theologians like to study. That He then dwelt among us is truth for the common man to live by.
Now comes the time when the common folk live out the realities of Christmas. We go back to work. That is what Jesus did when he grew into a man.
Jesus grew up and ate, drank, worked, and played. He built things with his hands. God doing what men do.
Now we grow up and eat, drink, work, and play. Some of us build things with our hands. Men doing what God has always done.
For a moment we worshiped. Now we work. The creator became a carpenter and our work is transformed into worship.
